THE PLOT:
The Great Vorelli is a hypnotist and a ventriloquist with a very odd dummy. Hugo doesn't only talk, but he walk walk, eat
and kill for his master. But Mark English, a reporter is out to uncover the secret behind Hugo's amazing walking ability
and why they seem to argue more then entertain when on stage.
The truth is more horrifying then Mark can imagine and unless he can find a way to stop Vorelli it could spell a bad ending
for his girlfriend.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Okay, there are two versions on the DVD, the American version which at the time was cut to pieces thanks to the damn "Hays
Commission. Then there was the British version, now if I were you and want to get the full worth of this movie then I'd go
for the British version which is way better then the American version. They aren't afraid to show a little skin, it's insulting
how moralist make us ashamed of what God gave us. Any way, even though the British version is better it's not perfect. There
are story and character issues that make it a little annoying, but compared to some, it's Oscar Material. 6 STARS
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
Killer ventriloquist isn't new, the Twilight Zone did it and later in the movie magic. But this is the first time that the
ventriloquist Dummy is alive, it's not all in his head. I won't get into too many details on how it's alive, but it is alive
and that's cool. But Zedd is right about the story and character issues. In fact they bugged me a tad more then it did him.
So I give my final ruling as 5 STARS. OK, not great.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ STORY (Works for the most part.)
+ REAL DUMMY (The ventriloquist dummy has a real life of his own.)
+ ATMOSPHERE (The atmosphere is spooky and enjoyable.)
+ BRITISH VERSION (If you watch this I recommend the British version over the censored American version.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- STORY (There are mild story issues that could have been done better.)
- CHARACTER (There are character flaws that I think could have been better.)
...AND FINALLY...
- NOT FOR EVERYONE (If you are offended by nudity or even brief nudity then don't watch this and get a life.)
