THE PLOT:
Homicide Detective Mike Norris pursues serial killer Charles Lee Ray (his name even sounds like a killer) to a closed toy
story. Mike and Charles have a tremendous gun battle which leaves Charles fatally wounded, dying he pulls out a Good Guy
dolls and recites a vooddoo chant, then dies.
One would think that would be the end of it, instead it's only the beginning as little Andy gets the very same Good Guy
doll for his birthday. No one believes that Chucky can walk and talk on his own, not just the pre-programed recordings.
But he does, the chant was a spell that placed the spirit of Charles Lee Ray or Chucky into that doll and Chucky is after
two things, revenge and a new body. It seems the Voodoo spell has a unexpected side effect as the Doll becomes his real body
when he thought it was just a place to hide.
Will Chucky get a new body and what happens to Andy if he does? Will Andy get the Doll body? These are the questions.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
Interesting premise for a horror movie, the killer in the toy. It's a scary world if you can't even trust a beloved plaything.
But the cast was great, the premise was scary and like Freddy wouldn't have worked with anyone else but Robert England, Chucky
isn't Chucky without Brad Dourif. Brad is a great character actor and a nice man, I met him once at a nearby Carl's Junior
one day. A great start to a great flick, but there are some writing issues and continuity mistakes which force me to give
it a mark down, I give CHILD'S PLAY 8 STARS
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I agree with Zedd, a great classic. I think because Freddy and Jason wsa getting stale around this time. The movie makers
thought it was time to come up with something fresh, something original and they found it in Chucky. The acting, the effects
were all very impressive. The animatronics in Chucky was cool, not perfect. But cool. I give it...8 STARS as well.
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ BRAD DOURIF (That laugh made Chucky, no other actor could have been Chucky other then Brad Dourif.)
+ STORY (A unique story, just when you thought it was safe to go into the toy chest)
+ EFFECTS (The effects are impressive, not perfect. But very impressive)
+ ATMOSPHERE (It has the creepy atmosphere, you never know when it's going to strike)
+ MAIN CHARACTERS (The main heroes and villians were cool)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- CONTUNITY MISTAKES (If you look carefully, there is a number of mistakes in the film)
- SUPPORTING CHARACTERS (Some of the supporting characters were annoying)
AND FINALLY...
- FAN BASED (Not for everyone, some might be offended by a killer toy)
